Things I've Put Together
Note (9/18/98): I'm more or less dropping this page.
The Redundant Site Map
and the
caves
should serve the
same purpose, and I have no great desire to update three pages
every time I add something. (This page, the site map, and the what's-new.)
I'll leave this here for the time being, but I won't be updating it. Eventually
it will go away.
These are projects that are done, more or less. Or things that
needed more explanation.
Ok, actually it's just that the names are too long to fit
with my OneWord home page motif.
-
Markov Chain Texts.
-
A word-scrambling program that I wrote a very long time ago.
Also, the best results I've gotten from it -- the Revelation
of St. Alice, and Alice in Elsinore.
-
The Great Icebreaker Game Narrative.
-
There was this wacky event, and I decided there should be a suitable
story written about it. So I wrote one.
-
Capture-the-Flag With Stuff.
-
Stuff! Magic! Foam!
-
Hand-painted Icehouse pieces, and
notes on how to paint your own.
-
Hand-painted Arcana pieces,
although I don't have pictures of them yet.
-
A kinetic laser toy.
-
Research on the Modular Multiphasic Laser Output Device.
-
Assorted camera images.
-
Various images that I've collected from various digital
cameras.
-
Text adventures.
-
Just like in the good old Infocom days. (In fact, they're written using the
Z-machine game file format used by Infocom games.) I like to believe that I'm
expanding the boundaries of interactive literature. Maybe I'm nuts, but
then, people seem to think they're good.
-
Text adventure interpreters.
-
These are the programs which enable you to run the aforementioned
text adventures on your particular machine. I have written
nice-looking interpreters for the Z-machine format (used by Infocom as
well as
my own games
) and for TADS (another popular format.)
- MaxZip: a Z-machine interpreter for the Mac.
- XZip: a Z-machine interpreter for Unix/Linux boxes running X windows.
- MaxTADS: a TADS interpreter for the Mac.
-
System's Twilight: An Abstract Fairy Tale
-
A shareware puzzle adventure game for the Macintosh.
-
Review of Star Wars (Special Edition).
-
I saw a nifty movie; I wrote a nifty review. Originally posted on rec.arts.movies.reviews.
-
Spellcast: a Game of Duelling Wizards.
-
This is an old paper-and-pencil game for two or more players. I implemented
it for Unix machines running X Windows. It was quite popular among the
sort of people who abandoned their lives for Magic: The Gathering, a
year later.
-
Praser 5.
-
A game I wrote in 1989. It's a peculiar agglomeration of IF and word puzzle. (I make no excuse or explanation.) Originally it was a standalone program and a set of files in my computer account; in 1994 I created a version on the Web.
Now it's a Z-code game.
-
Reviews of Commercial Games
-
Sometimes I write reviews of commercial CD-ROM adventure games. Originally posted on comp.sys.mac.games.adventure.
-
The Left Foot Living Review
-
An indisposable lifestyle resource.
-
TextureFnoob
-
A graphics tool, er, programming language, um, mathematical
graphing package... Freeware for Power Macintosh.
-
Mosaic Rubik's
Cube Art
-
I didn't invent this art form, but I have now designed several patterns,
of which some are shown on this page. No, I can't solve the Cube. I
only need to be able to do one face to make these works.
-
A Marriage Story
-
I was invited to say something at a friend's wedding. This came out.
-
Glk: A Proposed Standard I/O Interface for Text Adventures
-
Blorb: A Proposed Standard Resource Format for Text Adventures
-
Certificate Cards
-
Nifty little cards that I have
distributed in big piles. PostScript versions included.
-
Custom Rubik's Cube Designs
-
Not just plain colored squares. Some of these challenges are interesting
even if (like me) you can't actually solve the original Cube.
-
Crosswire
-
A look at an old attempt to invent a card game with
exactly two kinds of cards.
-
Z'Ripple
-
A silly visual toy for the PalmPilot. Dots ripple when you
touch the screen.
-
Z'Catalog
-
A handy utility for the PalmPilot. List, sort, delete, or
modify any database in the Pilot's memory.
-
Two-Player Aquarius
-
How to play Aquarius with just two players -- a couple of variations.
