...of popular authors: Had been hovering between "O" and "P" for three
months, but has just taken a sharp jump up-alphabet -- no doubt due to the
coincidental release of new books by Calmair and Faraudade in the same
week. A slow downward slide is expected for the next two months, towards
the long-term equilibrium point, until Fanhom Tsil's next "Orbiter"
volume begins to exert its pull.

CoolHand Loot are thinwire bracelets; they put out diffuse air
impeller fields, solely to blow air across your hands. Gas-only
standard. Surprisingly cooling, and besides, who wants sweaty palms?

SunSpot Clothing is another line of clothing from ShadowLands.
[Fads, vol 12.]
It's rather more expensive, though -- it uses logic and colorant tools
to do the reverse of what ShadowLands does with chemical dyes. The
logic tracks which way each surface of the fabric is facing, and the
parts facing east are much lighter in color. Thus, you seem to be
standing in sunlight -- even on cloudy days or in indoor diffuse
lighting.
ShadowLands is only selling "east-facing" SunSpot, at least for the present. The lack of choice is more than made up for by the group effect of several SunSpot wearers, moving around in the same space, all illuminated by the same nonexistent sunlight. A planned future extension will let you control the non-lighting for a given space. A programmable comm transponder will coordinate all the SunSpot fabric within range, telling it what angle -- and color -- of light to simulate. Yes, everybody has already asked for luminescent SunSpot.

For those with allergies and those generally watching their diet,
Korolen is selling eating-sticks which react to various compounds in
food, temporarily turning distinctive colors. Specify the colors and
ranges of sensitivity when you order. You can have up to ten, although
really any more than six is just asking for indistinguishable shades
of mud.

Geneworkers have come up with several new pattern varietals of
lawn-turf. We're way past simple lawn mosaics now. Soyas's Hour-lawn
moves pigmented sap up and down the grass-blade to produce six
different mosaics, each lasting four hours of the day's cycle.
Denginae's Lawn Relief adjusts the levels of growth hormones to
produce a three-dimensional relief sculpture -- the grass can be from
a quarter-inch to six inches high, with one-percent precision and a
two-inch horizontal resolution. They also have PathFinder Grass,
which glows when you walk on it at night -- immediate luminescent
footprints, spreading out in minutes to a soft trail that lasts until
morning -- seems like an invitation for kids to trespass, but someone
must enjoy it. And a private gene-artist in the West End is seeding
his lawn with a turf which looks perfectly even and homogenous, but in
which different blades of grass have different stiffnesses --
producing startling, evanescent portraits in green chiaroscuro
whenever the wind gusts.
