"Cragne Manor (Dining Room)" by Roberto Colnaghi
Chapter 1 - Do Not Change Any Of This
Include Cragne Suite by Ryan Veeder.
[Don't mess with other people's rooms!]
M1F is a region.
M1F7 is a room in M1F. M1F7 is north from M1F6.
[M1F6 is not in M1F. Is this a mistake, or is it desired?]
M1F8 is a room in M1F. M1F8 is west from M1F7.
M1F9 is a room in M1F. M1F9 is east from M1F7.
Part 1 - M1F7 Dining Room
Printed name of M1F7 is "Dining Room (Roberto Colnaghi)".
Description of M1F7 is "Three [colnaghi-ghosts] are sitting at a long [colnaghi-table], intently sipping coffee at the end of a formal dinner and conversing about serious-sounding matters. They don't seem to be aware of your presence. You notice a [colnaghi-calendar] on the wall."
Commentary of M1F7 is “When I was thinking about how to implement a puzzleless junction room, the first idea I got was to make a dreamlike world, but then I thought that a sci-fi background would be more appropriate for a Lovecraftian vignette. So I decided to link the Cragne Manor theme to the chronovisor, a real-world Italian urban legend. The [quotation mark]Domenica del Corriere[quotation mark] really printed an article about the whole story, and the [quotation mark]chronovisor[quotation mark] even has a Wikipedia article. Who knows, maybe it's waiting in a forgotten Vatican cellar... Anyway, it ends with an homage to Anchorhead, to wrap it up. My thanks go to Ryan Veeder and Jenni Polodna for letting a beginner like me contribute to this game, and to Andrew Schultz, Chandler Groover, Sean M. Shore, Matteo Stucchi, Erika Redaelli, Caleb Wilson, Llew Mason and Chris Conley for testing.”
Chapter 1 - The Room
[This chapter is about the room and the scenery it contains]
Before going to M1F7 for the first time: say "As you walk through the doorway, you realize you've stumbled onto a dinner."
The colnaghi-table is a supporter in M1F7. It is privately-named. The colnaghi-table is scenery. The printed name of the colnaghi-table is "table". Understand "table" as the colnaghi-table. Understand "dust" as the colnaghi-table when the colnaghi-dinner is not happening. The description of the colnaghi-table is "[if the colnaghi-dinner is happening]The wooden [colnaghi-table] is set for dinner, but the meal seems to be just finished[otherwise]Instead of the tablecloth and dishes that crowded the [colnaghi-table] before, it is now covered by dust--and a [colnaghi-machine-condition] [colnaghi-chronovisor][end if]."
[The compiler doesn't like a nested if condition in strings, so here's another phrase]
To say colnaghi-machine-condition: say "[if the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken]broken[otherwise]bizarre[end if]".
Instead of taking the colnaghi-table: say "The table is too big to carry it around."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-table: try taking the colnaghi-table.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-table: try taking the colnaghi-table.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-table to a direction: try taking the colnaghi-table.
Instead of rubbing the colnaghi-table: say "[if the colnaghi-dinner is not happening]You try your best to clean the [colnaghi-table] from the dust that covers it, but there's just too much.[otherwise]The table is set for dinner, better not.[end if]".
Does the player mean entering the colnaghi-table when the location is M1F7: it is likely.
The colnaghi-background is scenery in M1F7. It is privately-named. Printed name of the colnaghi-background is "room". Understand "room", "dining room", "dining" as the colnaghi-background.
Instead of examining the colnaghi-background: try looking instead.
The colnaghi-calendar is scenery in M1F7. It is privately-named. The printed name of the colnaghi-calendar is "calendar". Understand "calendar" as the colnaghi-calendar. The description of the colnaghi-calendar is "[if the colnaghi-dinner is happening]Today is the 14th of April, 1951.[first time] Wait, last time you checked, it was 1996![only][otherwise]Today is the 22nd of April, 1996.[end if]"
Instead of taking the colnaghi-calendar: say "You don't need the calendar. You'll remember this day as long as you'll live."
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-calendar: say "No need to move it around."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-calendar: try pushing the colnaghi-calendar.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-calendar to direction: try pushing the colnaghi-calendar.
Instead of examining the player when the location is M1F7: say “[if the colnaghi-chronovisor is operable]This place reminds you you're hungry and haven't eaten in a long time. Unfortunately you see nothing to eat[otherwise]The terrible vision has made you lose your appetite[end if].”
Instead of examining a direction when the location is M1F7: say "[if the noun is inside]You can't see any such thing[otherwise if the noun is outside]You can't see any such thing[otherwise][colnaghi-examine-direction][end if]."
[For the same reason as above, here's the third and last phrase of the room]
To say colnaghi-examine-direction: say "There's nothing special [if the noun is up]above you[otherwise if the noun is down]at your feet[otherwise]to the [noun][end if]"
Instead of going nowhere when the location is M1F7 and the colnaghi-dinner is not happening: say "[if the noun is inside or the noun is outside]There's nothing to go [noun][otherwise]There's nothing [noun]. Doorways are west, east and south[end if]."
Understand "look behind [something]" as looking under when the location is M1F7.
Understand "floor" as down when the location is M1F7.
Understand "ceiling" as up when the location is M1F7.
Understand "look behind [something]" as looking under when the location is M1F7.
Understand "xyzzy" as a mistake ("In Cragne Manor no one can hear you xyzzy.") when the location is M1F7.
Chapter 2 - The Dinner
[This chapter describes the ghost scene which first happens when the player enters the room. The player can't escape the rooms until it ends, but it proceeds by itself and it lasts 7 turns]
The colnaghi-dinner is a scene.
The colnaghi-dinner begins when the location is M1F7. The colnaghi-dinner ends when the time since the colnaghi-dinner began is 7 minutes.
The colnaghi-ghosts are plural-named men in M1F7. They are privately-named. The colnaghi-ghosts are scenery. The printed name of the colnaghi-ghosts is "men". Understand "men", "man", "ghost", "ghosts", "guest", "guests", "Enrico", "Fermi", "Enrico Fermi", "Wernher von Braun", "Wernher", "von Braun", "Louis Cragne", "Louis", "Cragne" as the colnaghi-ghosts. The description of the colnaghi-ghosts is "Something's wrong with these people. They seem translucent and blurred."
Instead of taking something during the colnaghi-dinner: if the noun is in the location, try touching the noun; otherwise continue the action.
Instead of touching the colnaghi-ghosts: say "Your hands passes through them as through air."
Instead of squeezing the colnaghi-ghosts: try touching the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-ghosts: try touching the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of turning the colnaghi-ghosts: try touching the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-ghosts to a direction: try touching the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of attacking the colnaghi-ghosts: say "No one seems to notice you."
Instead of giving something to the colnaghi-ghosts: try attacking the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of showing something to the colnaghi-ghosts: try attacking the colnaghi-ghosts.
Instead of waking the colnaghi-ghosts: say "They seem quite awake."
Instead of throwing something at the colnaghi-ghosts: try silently dropping the noun; say "[The noun] passes straight through the body of the men and falls on the floor."
Instead of kissing the colnaghi-ghosts: say "Hey! Peter could be jealous! And after all, a romance with a ghost could prove a bit unpractical."
Instead of saying hello to the colnaghi-ghosts: say "You try to cut in, but the three men ignore you."
Instead of touching the colnaghi-table during the colnaghi-dinner: say "The table is incorporeal."
Instead of touching the colnaghi-calendar during the colnaghi-dinner: say "The calendar is fuzzy and translucent, you pass through it."
Every turn during the colnaghi-dinner: say "[one of]The man at the head of the table says: [quotation mark]I hope you enjoyed my hospitality. As you know, I'm interested in the new developments of science. Particularly, I think the acknowledgement of a fourth dimension, together with that of non-Euclidian geometry applied to space-time, is a big step towards the understanding of reality, on a cosmic scale.[quotation mark][line break][or]One of the guests answers: [quotation mark]Well, Mr. Cragne, that's true in general, but for most of our experience, space-time just follows regular, Euclidian geometry. It appreciably bends itself in a non-Euclidian way only in the presence of an enormous mass, or energy. Said condition is inconceivable for our everyday experience in this world...[quotation mark][line break][or][quotation mark]...and yet, Dr. Einstein's theory predicts this as something possible, Dr. Fermi. I know there is speculation about black holes, things so massive that they bend the very fabric of reality. My question for you, respected gentlemen, is this: what do you think these [']black holes['] can be?[quotation mark][line break][or]The other guest says: [quotation mark]We don't know. It could be a collapsed star, attracting more and more matter...[quotation mark] [paragraph break][quotation mark]I must disagree, Dr. Von Braun,[quotation mark] Fermi interrupts. [quotation mark]Also Dr. Einstein himself thinks these [']black holes['] are just theoretical solutions of his general relativity equations, not things happening in reality...[quotation mark][line break][or][quotation mark]And yet, the universe is so vast, and we know only a very tiny part of it. Maybe Dr. Einstein is wrong. Maybe, somewhere, something so massive and energetic can exist. It could even be a [italic type]living[roman type] thing.[quotation mark][line break][or][quotation mark]Anyway, I think Einstein could be wrong about something else: what if the speed of light could be beaten? The consequences of that would be daunting: the very notion of simultaneity, as we understand it, is based on the speed of light. But if something, someway, could beat it...[quotation mark][paragraph break][quotation mark]We could break the rules of space-time, travel through time, and see things that happened in the past...[quotation mark] Von Braun speculates.[or][colnaghi-dinner-ending][stopping]".
[Curiously, the compiler complained about too much text for the rule above, so I had to put the final part in a phrase]
To say colnaghi-dinner-ending: say "[quotation mark]In the distant, [italic type]ancestral[roman type] past,[quotation mark] Cragne intervenes. [quotation mark]I gathered you here, revered scientists, to show you my recent discovery. You can freely take it, if you want. Maybe you can derive new scientific progress from it, or even build some device which can take us where we couldn't possibly even think of, until now. Do you dare to look in the abyss?[quotation mark][paragraph break]The two men stare at their host, curious and frightened all the same, as their bodies become more and more translucent, until they disappear, together with the plates, the glasses, the tablecloth and all the rest, leaving just an old, dusty table.[paragraph break]"
Instead of going during the colnaghi-dinner: say "The boundaries of the room are blurred, and you can't see any way of leaving the place."
Instead of listening during the colnaghi-dinner: say "Aside from the men's talking, you hear nothing."
Instead of listening to the colnaghi-ghosts: try silently waiting.
Instead of thinking during the colnaghi-dinner: say "You are puzzled by the words you're hearing: better keep listening till the end of the speech."
When the colnaghi-dinner ends: now the description of M1F7 is "A long, rectangular mahogany [colnaghi-table] takes up most of the room. The room is old and dusty, and it seems decades have passed since the last time someone had dinner here. On the [colnaghi-table] lies a [if the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken]broken[otherwise]strange[end if] [colnaghi-chronovisor], and a [colnaghi-calendar] is pinned on the wall. Doorways lead west, east, and south.[if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to ancestral past][paragraph break]On the [colnaghi-screen] of the [colnaghi-chronovisor] is a black, hypnotic vortex.[end if]"; now the colnaghi-ghosts are off-stage; now the colnaghi-chronovisor is on the colnaghi-table; now the colnaghi-magazinecutting is on the colnaghi-table; try looking.
Chapter 3 - The Magazine Cutting
[After the ghost scene, the chronovisor and the magazine which talks about it appear on the table. This chapter is about the magazine, which is a book in gaming terms]
The colnaghi-magazinecutting is a book. "Next to the [colnaghi-chronovisor] there is also an old magazine cutting." It is privately-named. The printed name of the colnaghi-magazinecutting is "Italian magazine cutting". Understand "italian magazine cutting", "italian", "magazine", "cutting", "italian magazine", "italian cutting", "magazine cutting", "Domenica del Corriere", "Domenica", "Corriere", "translation" as the colnaghi-magazinecutting. The description of the colnaghi-magazinecutting is "This is a cutting from an old Italian magazine. Printed on a corner is [quotation mark]La Domenica del Corriere, 2 Maggio 1972[quotation mark], and is apparently an article about an Italian monk and his alleged invention. In particular, a photo on the page strikes you. Attached to the newspaper cutting is what seems a typewritten translation of the article in English."
The passage of the colnaghi-magazinecutting is "The article is an interview with Father Pellegrino Ernetti, a Benedictine monk and official exorcist of Venice, as well as physics and electronic amateur, about his invention. He claims his [quotation mark]chronovisor[quotation mark] is the fruit of years of research with twelve of the best minds of his time, Enrico Fermi and Wernher von Braun among them. Receiving all kinds of electromagnetic and sound waves with its sensors and antennae, the chronovisor can show images and sounds from any place, at any past time, no matter how distant. He claims to have seen many historic figures from the past, and through it he was able to transcribe a lost tragedy of Ennio, and to record an image of Christ on the cross (published in the magazine). It seems that the monk is very jealous of his invention, as he refuses to show it to anyone."
The colnaghi-photo is a thing. It is privately-named. It is part of the colnaghi-magazinecutting. The printed name of the colnaghi-photo is "chronovisor photo". Understand "photo", "chronovisor photo" as the colnaghi-photo. The description of the colnaghi-photo is "No doubt, it is the same machine [if location is not M1F7]you've seen on the manor's dinner table[otherwise]which lies on the table in front of you[end if]."
Chapter 4 - The Chronovisor
[This chapter is about the chronovisor, which is the more interactive part of the vignette. If the player wants to play with it, he can set the dial and look to the manor area in various periods of the past. If he looks to the most ancestral version, he catches a glimpse of the cosmic horror, and then the chronovisor burns out as a result of the excessive energy it receives. Being a complex object, it is divided in parts, everyone of which gets its section]
The colnaghi-chronovisor is a device. It is privately-named. It is scenery. The printed name of the colnaghi-chronovisor is "machine". Understand "contraption", "chronovisor", "chronoscope", "machine", "machinery", "device" as the colnaghi-chronovisor. The description of the colnaghi-chronovisor is "It seems straight out of a 60s science fiction movie: a big cathodic [colnaghi-screen] is hooked up to an [colnaghi-board] with some controls on it, which in turn is hooked up to a bunch of different [colnaghi-sensors]. It takes up most part of the table[if the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken], and seems broken beyond repair[end if]." The colnaghi-chronovisor can be operable or broken. It is operable.
Instead of listening when the location is M1F7 and the colnaghi-dinner is not happening: if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off, say "The dining room is quiet now that Louis Cragne, Enrico Fermi and Wernher Von Braun have left."; otherwise try listening to the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of listening to the colnaghi-chronovisor:
if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off or the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken:
say "The [colnaghi-chronovisor] is silent";
if the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken:
say ", forever";
otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to present:
say "The [colnaghi-chronovisor] emits a very low hum";
otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to recent past:
say "The [colnaghi-chronovisor]'s humming is still quite low";
otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to far past:
say "The [colnaghi-chronovisor] is emitting a high tone sound";
otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to prehistory:
say "The sound of the [colnaghi-chronovisor] is now a high pitched shriek";
otherwise:
say "The sound emitted by the [colnaghi-chronovisor] is very acute, bordering to ultrasound";
say "."
Instead of listening to something which is part of the colnaghi-chronovisor: try listening to the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of smelling the colnaghi-chronovisor when the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken: say "It smells of burned electronics."
Instead of smelling something which is part of the colnaghi-chronovisor when the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken: try smelling the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of attacking the colnaghi-chronovisor: if the colnaghi-chronovisor is operable, say "Better not. The [colnaghi-chronovisor] may do something interesting."; otherwise say "You bash the [colnaghi-chronovisor], with no results."
Instead of attacking something which is part of the colnaghi-chronovisor: try attacking the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of taking the colnaghi-chronovisor: say "The [colnaghi-chronovisor] is bulky and made of intricately connected parts. [if the colnaghi-chronovisor is operable]Moving it might destroy it[otherwise]Besides, it's completely useless now[end if]."
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-chronovisor: try taking the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of turning the colnaghi-chronovisor: try taking the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-chronovisor to a direction: try taking the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Understand "fix [something]" as a mistake ("[if the noun is the broken colnaghi-chronovisor]You don't have the slightest idea on how to fix it[otherwise if the noun is the player]Nothing you can do to improve yourself more than this. At least at the moment[otherwise]It seems to be perfectly functioning[end if].") when the location is M1F7.
The examine devices rule does nothing when the location is M1F7 and the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken.
After switching on the colnaghi-chronovisor: say "As you push the button, you hear an electric buzz, and the lights on the [colnaghi-board] start blinking. The [colnaghi-screen] is now on and shows the manor from the outside."
After switching off the colnaghi-chronovisor: now the colnaghi-dial is set to present; say "The screen instantly shuts off, as the dial comes back to the starting position and the humming slowly gets lower and lower, until there is only silence."
Instead of switching on the colnaghi-chronovisor when the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken: say "There is no reaction. The [colnaghi-chronovisor] seems to be broken, probably overloaded by the energy waves received when you used it the last time."
Every turn when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the location is M1F7 and the current action is not listening and the current action is not listening to something: try listening to the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Section 1 - The Sensors
The colnaghi-sensors are a plural-named thing. They are privately-named. They are scenery. They are part of the colnaghi-chronovisor. The printed name of the colnaghi-sensors is "sensors". Understand "sensors", "antennae", "sensor", "antenna", "microphones", "microphone", "mic", "mics", "receiving device", "receiving devices" as the colnaghi-sensors. The description of the colnaghi-sensors is "A board on which all kinds of microphones, antennae and other receiving devices are mounted on."
Instead of touching the colnaghi-sensors when the colnaghi-chronovisor is operable: say "Better don't mess with this stuff, it seems pretty delicate."
Section 2 - The Screen
The colnaghi-screen is a thing. It is privately-named. It is scenery. It is part of the colnaghi-chronovisor. The printed name of the colnaghi-screen is "screen". Understand "screen", "speaker" as the colnaghi-screen. The description of the colnaghi-screen is "[first time]The most recognizable part of this contraption is a big steel-encased glass [colnaghi-screen], with a speaker mounted on it. [only][if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off]The screen is off at the moment[otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to present]The screen shows the manor from the outside[otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to recent past]A Native American tribe is singing and dancing around a totem. The totem depicts animals, but mostly fishes or crustaceans, a strange thing considering this place is nowhere near the sea[otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to far past]The hill shown on the [colnaghi-screen] seems higher, yet it strongly resembles the one on which the manor sits. The vegetation is much thicker, with green conifers covering the landscape. As you look harder, you notice fast movements, probably wild animals[otherwise if the colnaghi-dial is set to prehistory]The mountain on the [colnaghi-screen] seems to be the very same hill you've been watching, only seen as it was millions of years ago. Ancient plants dominate the view, and huge reptilians can be seen wandering around[end if]."
Instead of examining the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to ancestral past:
if the colnaghi-chronovisor is operable:
say "A black vortex at the screen's center whirls. Stars orbit around it with increasing speed until they are sucked in. Then you notice the vortex becoming bigger or nearer. Only when the thing has completely covered the screen, you realize that there's actually [italic type]something[roman type] in that blackness. The [colnaghi-leds] are blinking so fast you can't even see them, and the scream of the machine is breaking your ears. But you're totally paralyzed, watching the writhing appendages dwelling in the vortex, as you realize that hideous thing is a living being, swarming the cosmos and wreaking havoc through galaxies. Then, some circuitry on the [colnaghi-board] burns out. The shriek drops to a very low frequency, as most of the lights burn, and the machine becomes silent. But you just can't forget that horrific image, as the word VAADIGNEPHOD echoes in your brain.";
now the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off;
now the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken;
otherwise:
say "Looking at the burnt-out screen, you remember the horrible creature and the word VAADIGNEPHOD burned in your brain."
Section 3 - The Board
The colnaghi-board is a thing. It is privately-named. It is scenery. It is part of the colnaghi-chronovisor. The printed name of the colnaghi-board is "electronic board". Understand "electronic board", "board", "panel", "controls", "control" as the colnaghi-board. The description of the colnaghi-board is "This board is connected to both the [colnaghi-screen] and the [colnaghi-sensors]. It is filled with [colnaghi-leds] and lights, and prominently a steel [colnaghi-dial] and a [colnaghi-button]."
Instead of attacking something which is part of the colnaghi-board: try attacking the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of smelling something which is part of the colnaghi-board when the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken: try smelling the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of listening to something which is part of the colnaghi-board: try listening to the colnaghi-chronovisor.
The colnaghi-leds are a thing. They are privately-named. They are scenery. They are part of the colnaghi-board. The printed name of the colnaghi-leds is "LEDs". Understand "leds", "led", "lights" as the colnaghi-leds. The description of the colnaghi-leds is "The [colnaghi-leds] are [if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off]off[otherwise]blinking[end if]."
The colnaghi-button is a thing. It is privately-named. It is scenery. It is part of the colnaghi-board. The printed name of the colnaghi-button is "button". Understand "button" as the colnaghi-button. The description of the colnaghi-button is "The [colnaghi-button] is [if the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on]lit in red[otherwise]unlit[end if]."
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-button when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off: try switching on the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-button when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on: try switching off the colnaghi-chronovisor.
Section 4 - The Dial
The colnaghi-dial is a thing. It is privately-named. It is scenery. It is part of the colnaghi-board. The printed name of the colnaghi-dial is "dial". Understand "dial" as the colnaghi-dial. The colnaghi-dial can be set to present, set to recent past, set to far past, set to prehistory or set to ancestral past. The colnaghi-dial is set to present. The description of the colnaghi-dial is "A rotating steel disc, plain and simple. No arrows or gauge around it. The [colnaghi-dial] is [if set to present]turned all the way to the left[otherwise if set to recent past]midway between the left position and the middle position[otherwise if set to far past]just in the middle[otherwise if set to prehistory]midway between the middle position and the right position[otherwise]turned all the way to the right[end if]."
Instead of setting the colnaghi-dial to something: say "You absolutely don't know how to set the [colnaghi-dial], you can just turn it.“
Instead of switching on the colnaghi-dial: say "Maybe turning it would be more useful."
Instead of pushing the colnaghi-dial: try turning the colnaghi-dial.
Instead of pulling the colnaghi-dial: try turning the colnaghi-dial.
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched off: say "[if the colnaghi-chronovisor is broken]The [colnaghi-chronovisor] is irreparably broken[else]Nothing happens. Maybe you should turn on the [colnaghi-chronovisor][end if]."
Understand "turn [colnaghi-dial] back", "turn back [colnaghi-dial]" as a mistake ("You try to turn the [colnaghi-dial] backwards, to no avail.").
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to present: now the colnaghi-dial is set to recent past; say "[one of]You turn the dial right and it stops with a click. You joggle it back left, but it's stuck. Looks like you can only turn it right. T[or]As you turn the dial, t[stopping]he [colnaghi-leds] on the [colnaghi-board] start blinking faster. The hum of the machine changes pitch, going up as the images on the screen change abruptly. The screen seems to show the same location as before, but with the manor gone. Instead you can see a tribe of natives dancing around a wooden totem."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to recent past: now the colnaghi-dial is set to far past; say "The images on the screen change again. The [colnaghi-leds] blink faster and faster as the humming gets higher in pitch. Now you can only see the hill on which the manor stands, with no artifacts, no trails and no other trace of human presence. The hill also seems slightly taller."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to far past: now the colnaghi-dial is set to prehistory; say "The [colnaghi-screen] now shows a mountain, with vegetation you've only seen in some science textbook. Still, you feel this must be the same place you are in now. Suddenly, something dives from the right of the view, screaming fiercely before vanishing quickly. A prehistoric flying reptilian, by the looks of it."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to prehistory: now the colnaghi-dial is set to ancestral past; say "The images on the [colnaghi-screen] change again. No mountain anymore, no animals or plants, not even earth, just empty space. There's only darkness now, pointed by stars. Something in the middle of the [colnaghi-screen] catches your attention: it's like a whirl, turning in the blackness of deep space. The humming is now a piercing shriek, and the lights on the [colnaghi-board] are blinking like crazy. [paragraph break]You feel an impulse to keep watching the whirl on the [colnaghi-screen]."
Instead of turning the colnaghi-dial when the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on and the colnaghi-dial is set to ancestral past: say "You've reached the end of the scale."
Understand "manor" as the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to present and the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on.
Understand "totem", "natives","tribe" as the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to recent past.
Understand "hill" as the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to far past.
Understand "mountain", "reptilian", "dinosaur" as the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to prehistory.
Understand "whirl", "vortex", "black hole" as the colnaghi-screen when the colnaghi-dial is set to ancestral past and the colnaghi-chronovisor is switched on.

[The following is just for testing, to be cut when sending the final version]
Understand "comment" as a mistake ("[Commentary of M1F7]").
The player is in M1F8. [This is here jut to test the beginning of the scene, as I assume this room is not the starting location]
The description of M1F8 is "The only exit is east--this isn't the real room's description and should be deleted when the game is brought together."
