The Tenth Street Canal

The Tenth Street Bypass runs along the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, from Point Park to the new convention center. It is not very darn far above the river.

Sometimes, the river is above it.

That's about waist-deep; you can just see the tops of the waist-high guardrails, protruding above the surface.

 

That's Friday morning. It was higher the previous night. This stairway had six fewer steps when I saw it after work, and I think the crest was even higher.

I didn't get pictures after Hurricane Ivan, which I regret. When that flood went down, there were boats in this road.
