I'm not a Christian. Kind of a shame, because I think I agree with a lot of Christians about a lot of spiritual matters. The important matters.

It's only the piddly insignificant details, like the divinity of Jesus Christ, where I disagree with the Christians.

Oh, and the dividing line between important matters and piddly insignificant details. I guess I disagree with them there too.

I just got back from seeing "Dogma". I thought it was really funny.

I can understand why someone devoted to the Church -- any Church -- might be offended though. That's pretty obvious. "Dogma" is all about faith, and any Church that spells itself with a capital "C" can't rest until it has a monopoly on faith.

Really, I'm more surprised by the people who thought "Dogma" was preachy and wordy and boring and unfunny.

They should burn people like that.

I've spent five minutes trying to figure out a way to say, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Walk a mile in her galoshes. Observe that your viewpoint looks as shitassed to him as his does to you -- and draw conclusions from that observation.

Well, I can't say it, because it's such a damn cliche. Every holy man that ever came down off the mountain has said it. The jerks never listen, and the ones who listen -- you and me included by courtesy -- aren't the problem. (Nor, unfortunately, the majority.)

The love of money is the root of all evil.

Okay, the love of money and base sexual desire.

The love of money, base sexual desire, and the paranoid need for power are the root of all --

Four -- our four roots-of-all-evil are money, sexual desire, the need for power and fanatical devotion to the --

Ahem.

People are the root of all evil.

They should burn people like that.

Did I mention the sound design in "Dogma"? That was just terrific. I mean, in addition to everything else.

If I have a faith, it is the faith that hard questions are unimportant. Interesting, yes; amusing, and entertaining, and worthy of an evening's or a lifetime's enjoyment. But not fundamental to life.

If the answer isn't obvious, the question is a distraction. Go find an easier question.
